Sarah received $5.00 from the Tooth Fairy and it was burning a hole in her pocket all day. When I told her that after she asked for the bazillionth time if we were going shopping, she told me maybe I should hold her money.
Tee-hee-hee.
The $1 bins at Target were a treasure trove of "girlie" stuff and with five bucks, Sarah could afford a few things. She wanted me to take her picture so all of her adoring fans could see ... a butterfly necklace, a journal and a stuffed elephant. Oh my!

When I heard Sarah yell for me, I envisioned something requiring a bandaid and while there was blood, a bandaid's not going to stick inside her mouth. She finally lost her first tooth. Apparently it's really been bugging her that Ryan is about seven teeth ahead of her. Should I point out that she's almost the exact age he was when he lost his first tooth — he was five-and-two-months and she's five-and-three-months?!!? Nah ... she's not going to care. She's already asking when the next one will fall out.
And then there's the boy. When I asked what he was doing up there, Grandpa said "He wanted to climb". Yep, that makes perfect sense.

... you'll find the boy at the kitchen table with his homework. Today's installment took almost 45 minutes – three worksheets (two double-sided), a short story to read and practicing his spelling words again.
I think it would take less time if he could actually sit still and concentrate, but he seems to move almost involuntarily. Something is always tapping and most days he falls off of the chair at least once.
It would almost be funny if it didn't take so long.

When I finally get some, I'll let you know how it is. I wasn't busy with work, so I signed up for some more stuff to do at school — volunteering in the library, helping get Sarah's class started when her teacher does Whitney Live (the morning announcements read on TV by some of the 6th graders), the birthday bulletin board and a few other things.
Of course, now I have design projects cropping up so I spend my mornings alone at the computer ... and some of my afternoons and evenings, too. Not that I'm complaining because these paychecks should arrive in time for birthday and Christmas shopping. Yeah!
We did manage to escape long enough on Sunday to let the kids bounce & slide, then upset the kids, buy a funnel cake and head back home. Sometimes fun outings aren't as fun as anticipated. Darn it.

He wanted to be the monkey.
The race to the top for funnel cake begins!
Um ... okay. Who's going to help me up the hill?

After spending most of the day painting the 2-story side of the house, we took a nice ride in the cutlass, stopped at a car show and got some ice cream. Painting the tallest side wasn't as tough as we envisioned, but it's still a lot of repetitive arm motions. I'm pretty sore today and thankful it's supposed to rain so we can get a couple days off before we start the second coat.

We finally had another fire and smore-making party on Saturday night. It was slow going because the wood was wet and didn't want to burn. Finally, the last time Tom tried it stayed hot long enough to burn a few marshmallows.

The last couple of days have been cool, but still pretty nice so I've been shooing the kids outside after school. Maybe it's not warm enough for the sprinkler or wading pool, but there's still plenty of stuff left to do. The kids are getting to be pretty good jumpers.
