On To October.
Last post for the month and I'm just wondering where the time goes. At least I have the playoffs to look forward to next month.

GO TRIBE! Beat those Yankees!

Slow Going.
I'm in the middle of babying my printer. I'm working on cards for a wedding and I've got four printing on a page. For whatever reason, my printer would do the first two fine and then blur the second two. Took some finagling, but I finally figured it out — I'm printing two on the front and two on the back. While that seems to be faking out my printer, I can't just hit print and walk away while it does 100+ cards. I have to hand feed each one and next I have to trim them all out.

At least I've got time to get a little painting and drawing done between each side.

No Petite Princess Feet Here.
My daughter is happy about the princess dress, but feeling jipped because the glass slipper doesn't fit. I told her that's okay — she's too young for the prince anyway.

Another One Bites The Dust.

Actually, I just sold another painting. My Eric Clapton portrait is on his way to Long Island to live with the Beatles. Yep, the same gentleman who purchased the Sgt. Pepper series also wants Eric. Maybe I need to get cranking on these Rock Portraits again.

Since he's on his way out of here, I decided to feature him on Illustration Friday too. After all, what says the blues more than Clapton. In blue.

Green Day.
It's not easy being green. Maybe I should have used some artistic license, but the house across the street is green, the bushes are green, the grass is green, the trees are green, olives are green. Ick!

I don't know how to draw trees or bushes or houses. Give me one individual flower or leaf and I'm fine. Present me with the whole thing and I freak out. I know I probably shouldn't draw each and every branch and leaf, but how do you simplify all that information? I'm so used to recording every last detail that I short circuit when I want to edit. ARGH!

First Cleveland Sketch Crawl on October 6th.
I've been so jealous when I've read about other artists going on Sketch Crawls in their cities, so I'm REALLY EXCITED to hear one is scheduled for Downtown Cleveland.

You can
get all the details here, but basically it's a drawing marathon. Artists of all skill levels meet at a scheduled location, draw, move on to the next location and repeat until time runs out or I'm guessing you collapse from exhaustion. If you're close by, please consider taking part. It will be a great opportunity to connect with other artists and learn from different styles, techniques and interpretations. I can't wait!

But I guess I'll have to. Hope I see you there.

No Idea.
I have no idea what made me decide to grab these trimmers out of the shed to draw. The kids were playing in the wading pool for perhaps the last time this year and I thought hey, I could draw the trimmer thingy. So I did. Wasn't like I had any intention of actually trimming something. Weird, huh?

Today has been a little lame so far. We spent the morning waiting for the cable guy to come and luckily, some of the time was also spent waiting for him to fix it. Seems a squirrel or chipmunk decided to sharpen his teeth on the cable coming into the house. The guy spliced in a new piece and now I have a souvenir chewed up cable I'll probably end up drawing. I'm weird like that.

Wow! Two weirds in one post. Weird.

Ouch!
I should know better by now ... as many people have taken the opportunity to tell me ... but I neglected to take sunscreen to the Cleveland Indians game yesterday. I'm pretty crispy and hurting right now. I think it's time for another dose of solarcaine.

Happy 10th Anniversary!
To me and my husband. This is almost as tough as one of the kids' birthdays — I've been married for 10 years. AND, we've been a couple for thirteen!

I wish I had something really wonderful and touching to say, but that'll just make the husband blush — and probably yell at me later. So I'll just say Happy Anniversary. I'm thankful everyday that we got past that second date and ended up married. You're my best friend and I don't tell you often enough that you're also the most important person in my life. Love you! (That wasn't too mushy, was it?)

Frank's the First.
I've got my Halloween decorations out and I've started drawing them. I don't have as many to choose from as I do for Christmas, so this shouldn't take too long.

House Keychain — Week 6.
Summary only available when permalinks are enabled.
I have a good friend who just bought her first house with her fiancee and this idea popped into my head for a card. Took a bit of searching to find a reference for the house ... wouldn't you think Things Remembered would sell keychains like this? Well, not that I could find. I think this is for a realtor company promotion of all things.

Check out the cards here.

Give It A Rest.
Feeling guilty because I didn't get a drawing in my sketchbook yesterday. I did, however, draw and finish my drawing for one a week.

Blow-Off Day.
I really love sundays in the fall. The leaves, the brisk air and football. Oh, I don't actually watch the game, but Tom does. While he's watching the Browns and not working on some project, I take a nap. I'll work on my drawing for this week until lunch and then slip off into dreamland. Ahhhhhh.

Design Work After a Long Day = Fuzzy Brain.
Okay, I'm among friends. Can I just admit here that I hate replacing English text with French? French is almost always longer — a lot longer — so it takes finagling to make it fit where the English was. Plus, I have no clue where to break sentences or headlines because I can't read it and I can't even guess what the words are like I sometimes can with Spanish.

So after dinner last night, I sat down to tackle the translations for a clients' motorcycle catalog. I did fine on the 30+ pages of "pretty" copy — the descriptions of the motorcycle models and what they can each do. It was the four pages of already scrunched and crammed-in technical garbaldy-gook that gave me fits. I gave up at about 10:30 last night and saved those four pages for this morning. Luckily, I figured out an easier way to handle it and it's all done. Now I'm waiting for the messenger to come pick up the package so I can go "someplace kids like".

How come we never go someplace moms like? It's not fair!

Creative+Blogger+Award+Black_215x38

Diahn at Art By Diahn presented me with a "Creative Blogger" award today! I still find it hard to believe at times that people other than my parents (hi mom), in-laws, husband and friends (hi zelda) read my blog and now I've got someone telling me it's deserving of an award! How cool is that?!!? Very cool if you ask me.

So the deal now is I pass the award on to five other bloggers I find inspiring. Tough to pick, but if I have to narrow it down, then here are the five I make sure I visit every day.

Andrea Joseph — Andrea does the most amazing illustrations with a ball point pen of all things! I have no idea how she does it or where she gets the patience from, because they are always so intricate. And to top it off, she's also a genius with colored pencils.

Jessica at Ocean of Creativity — Jessica is a mom like me, trying to balance kids & family, work and her art. Hate to say it, but I take comfort in the fact that there are others out there trying to find time for everything.

Penelope Dullaghan — creator of Illustration Friday, Penelope is one busy and inspiring lady. I can't say enough about her amazing work, so go check it out for yourself.

Suzanne Buchanan at An Open Sketchbook — I love this lady's sense of humor and amazing ability to convey anything with a line drawing. I especially enjoy her illustrations of feet ... no fetish here, she just makes them look cool. AND, she is a very talented stationary designer and teacher. Another busy lady!

Megan Foldenauer — A medical and biological illustrator, Megan has a very inspiring "drawing a day" series going that is amazing! She can do wonderful things with just a pencil.

So thanks again to Diahn. You made my day!

Acorns — Week 5.
Yeah, I know I missed week four. I started a flower drawing, got distracted house painting and I'll admit it, lost interest in it. This one kept me busy for a couple of hours while I was "watching" the Indians beat up on the White Sox.

Cranking on Painting.
The trim in the living room, dining room, stairs and upstairs hallway, not a canvas. But that's okay ... the sooner it looks like our home, the better.

Something NEW!
Summary only available when permalinks are enabled.
I've been talking about "doing something" with my art for quite awhile and I'm finally taking the plunge. I just sold my Beatles series on eBay of all places and now I'll be offering my artwork as greeting cards. I'm starting off small, but more will be coming soon.

I ordered a sample to be mailed to myself this weekend and it's supposed to go out tomorrow. I'll let you know how long it takes to get to me ... the company printing them is in California.

I hope you'll stop on by to check out the selection. Thanks so much!
